INTRODUCTON
to the Witham U3A - Lincolnshire Churches & Chapels Group
( This Group of Witham U3A meets on the first Thursday morning in each month at a Church in Lincolnshire.
The first meeting of the new Group was on the first Thursday in February 2010 and the last meeting in 2010 was on the first Thursday in November because the December meeting had to be cancelled because of heavy snow.
During our first ten months we have visited 22 buildings mostly Anglican churches but including Roman Catholic churches and one building used by the Society of Friends (Quakers).
Each building has had its own very different quality and identity. Some are very remote, some quite overpowering by their size and then there is the smallest church in Lincolnshire at Apley. Many different styles of architecture are represented. We have been very fortunate to have had excellent guides. Within the group are a wide range of interests including architecture, genealogy, natural history, local history, art, music etc.
I hope that the Past Visits page will give you a better idea of the variety of buildings we have visited.
If you would like to visit any of the Anglican churches I suggest that you first visit the Diocese of Lincoln website. From there you can easily find details of the churchwardens for any active C of E church in Lincolnshire who can tell you if the church is unlocked or where to obtain the key.
