We
started our October visits with the Heneage Arms at Hainton! After
making use of the facilities we went on to the church which has a
large considerable number of very impressive monuments to the Heneage
family who have owned the estate here almost from the conquest.
The monuments date from 1435 and every century since is represented
with final monument being to the last Baron Heneage who died in 1953.
RC Chapel of St Frances de Sales, Hainton
The Heneage family have always been Roman Catholics except for George Robert Heneage who became a protestant apparently so that he could become High Sherrif of Lincolnshire in 1813!
The chapel in the grounds of Hainton Hall was built in 1836. It was a replacement for an earlier building at Sixhills Grange where the family maintained a chapel and priest.
Mass is said in the chapel every Saturday evening.
After our vast we adjoined to the Heneage Arms where we rather surprised to find a very welcome buffet lunch!
