December 2011:
Lincoln St Peter in Eastgate.
Our December visit was to St Peter in
Eastgate church Lincoln. This is, in my opinion, a very good
example of a church which has been updated very successfully for
multi-purpose use in the twenty-first century.

The north aisle was converted into
three meeting rooms and a kitchen some time ago. Recently the
pews were removed and comfortable portable chairs have replaced them.
This means that the nave can be cleared and used for a variety of
purposes including wedding receptions, dinners and meetings.

The east window at the time of our
meeting was in scaffolding and has been restored. There are some
fined stained glass windows in the South wall of the nave,
Liz bull was an excellent guide and Les Townsend played the organ so that we could sing two of Sir John Betjeman’s parodies on well-known hymns.

Refreshments followed and we had a
short meeting to discuss the 2012 programme and a few general issues
on the management of the group. It was emphasised that we can’t
always expect a guide.
