AUGUST 2010:
Abbey Church of St Andrew, SEMPRINGHAM and St Andrew, PICKWORTH
Our
visit in August was to Sempringham famous as the site of the
monastery founded by St Gilbert, the only English Saint. We had
an excellent guide in Nan Davenport. She was able to tell us so much
in an interesting and, at times humorous manner. I think all of us
were particularly fascinated by Nan’s account of the sad story of
the last Welsh Princess of Wales who was imprisoned here for 57
years. This was yet another fascinating day out.

On
our way home we called in at Pickworth church which is famous for its
wall paintings. Unfortunately these do not photograph very well.
